BEMM129 has been a different learning experience one that is really based upon ‘you get out what you put in’. In order to critically reflect on this module I will use Smyth’s (1989) ‘Reflect on Action’ method to reflect on my journey through this module.

Describe

This module was different to any module I have undertaken before, not only in the writing style but in how I have learnt. The MOOC introduced a different style of learning that I am used to whilst working on individual assignments: interaction and collaboration. This interaction continued into our blog post writing where we would respond to someone else’s post out of interest. Below are some comments left on my second blog post, they have expanded into different fields based upon a small section of the post. Each comment looked and evaluated the blog from a different perspective that I did not have the physical capacity to include. Interaction has enabled a holistic view to specific cases and an open discussion of content surrounding the business that was not included in the blog post.

Inform

The layout of such a digital module enabled an interaction amongst peers and enforced interaction with others. This type of peer learning enabled a holistic view of specific cases and an open discussion of not only the content of the business related to the blog post but of unstructured thoughts and ideas. Interacting with others in an informal manor provoked a conversation that was able to collaboratively expand and snowball ideas that were previously constrained by the academic nature of written articles.

My assessed comments are below; my most thought provoking was based on photography, my own stance meant I viewed it as a tool to gain a product rather than in its own right whereby the blogpost had made me evaluate this stance.

Confronting

This level of interaction had informed my blog writing and my critical thinking. Reading comments from different perspectives to the same stimulus has given me the confidence to discuss my own perspective. These conversations can snowball into an idea, that alone would never have come into fruition. My response below highlights this:

Reconstructing

At the beginning of this module and even up until this post right now, I didn’t see the point in discussing my knowledge with others. This module has changed my outlook of how to approach learning to take forward in academic and non-academic pathways.

As cliché as it sounds, it's been a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Thanks for the ride.
